Airlift Berlin Schedule

   
24./25.01.1948   First disagreements on the traffic routes to and from Berlin. 
20.03.1948  The Soviets leave the Allied Control Council. 
23./24.06.1948  Beginning of the blockade;
shutdown of the power plant Golpa-Zschornewitz, closure of all traffic routes to Berlin, an disruption of all food supplies from the Soviet occupation Zone.  
25.06.1948   Beginning of the Airlift ordered by General Clay.  
28.06.1948  The Britisch Armed Forces start their Airlift as “Operation Plainfair”. The American Airlift is defined as “Operation Vittles”. 
19.07.1948  The Royal Air Force deploys all DC-3 (Skytrain) from Wunstorf to Fassberg. 
21.08.1948  Three C-54 (Skymaster) squadrons are deployed to Fassberg for the transportation of coal.
 
20.10.1948  The Joint Airlift Command of American and British Forces “Combined Airlift Task Force” is inaugurated, with its headquarters located in Wiesbaden. 
20.12.1948  Fassberg´s operation “Santa Claus” provides gifts for approximately
10 000 children in Berlin.

Feb. 1949  
The Western Allies increase their sanctions against the Soviets;
the blockade is extended to all trading with East European Countries. 
04.05.1949  In a four-power communiqué the Allied Forces come to an agreement concerning the ending of both blockade and counter blockade as
of May 12 th 1949.  
12.05.1949  End of blockade, traffic routes to and from Berlin are opened again. 
27.08.1949  The last ton of coal is leaving Fassberg. 
30.09.1949   Ending of the Airlift. The last plane arrives Berlin-Tempelhof.
