The original Fassberg Flyer does not exist any longer. Its track was lost in 1974 at Shawnee Airlines in Orlando. The Turkish Airforce was so kind as to donate a C-47, which was involved in the Airlift, to the German Airforce in 1998. Sponsored by EADS (Satic), the C-47 was transported to Fassberg with the company’s own Beluga 4 Aircraft. The Fassberg Flyer was a symbol at the time and the only Aircraft which was named.
The German workers were pulled together in the German Civil Labour Organisation, which was established and administered by the British Army. The Germans came from all over the country, and as a small token the workers from Hamelin sculptured the Pied Piper in concrete and placed it in front of their accommodation tents and Nissenhuts in Camp Trauen.
